Search for Floppy Disks

I have just got back from the shops and I am frustrated. I have an older computer that doesn’t have a CD burner but has a floppy drive.

I have to post off Ingenuity‘s PAYG info off to the ATO and the only option that would work from my PC is the floppy. Of course we don’t have them on hand so I had to go shopping.

I understand that floppy disks aren’t the latest technology but I still thought that they would be quite accessible. How wrong was I? Maybe I should’ve taken a drive out to Ipswich. I suppose Orion Springfield is at the fore front of everything new and shiny.

When I finally found somewhere that had floppy disks, I almost had a heart attack at the price they wanted for them.

I feel like I’m turning into my Grandies with the stories of, “I remember when the 50 cent soft serve cones were only 30 cents and we used to have to wash up for a month to get that 30 cents”. Maybe that’s a mild exaggeration… I don’t think the 30 cent soft serve cones were around back then…. lol…

Cleaners

Sandy who has been our cleaner for approximately 3 years, has had a few personal issues and decided that she was going to give up work. So for the last month and a half, I have been trying to source another “good” cleaner.

The reason that we initially got a cleaner is because I was getting lumbered with pretty much all the household chores. There’s nothing more annoying than when you’re working your butt off cleaning and your other half sitting on their butt and they think the house is clean because of some wonderful fairies. So after several heated discussions, we got a cleaner. The cleaner doesn’t do everything, just the stuff that I don’t really like doing (ironing) and stuff that I don’t have time for.

I suppose I am used to the way that Sandy used to get things done and the time she needed. Let me tell you that there is a shortage of cleaners. Actually finding a place that has available cleaners is rare. Seeing that we want a cleaner to come in every week, it’s been hard to find someone.

The first couple of times that a cleaner comes to your home, they are a bit slow. They’re learning where all your cleaning products are and how easy / hard things are to clean. So Sandy used to get everything done in 3 – 3.5 hours. The first replacement cleaner took 4 hours to do: clean the main bathroom (clean shower screen, wipe out the spa bath, wipe down the vanity, clean mirrors, vacuum & mop), clean the kitchen (wipe benches, hotplate, outside of fridge, sink & vacuum & mop), clean the toilets, vacuum & mop the rest of the house.

Sandy in 3 – 3.5 hours could do all of the above plus: wash up & put away any dishes, all my ironing, take the rubbish out, clean the other bathrooms (another 2 ensuites), clean and wipe down in the laundry, vacuum the lounge suite and dusting.

We had tried out another cleaner this week. They went pretty well for their first clean. They pretty much did everything that Sandy could. However, the person that came this week is the area coordinator, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens when we get allocated another cleaner.
