Big Couple of Days

I had a big couple of days from Thursday – Sunday last week.  On Thursday, I was at work by 6:30am to get some important stuff done – which meant that I left home at approx 5:30am to get the train into the city.  I worked all day and left work at about 5pm ish and caught the train home.  I got home at about 6pm and I had promised Pete that I would do up the banking for Ingenuity.  Glen had arranged for us (Glen and I) to go to dinner at Fester & Jennifer’s, so he was bugging me about hurrying up as we had to go.  I hadn’t yet met Fester & Jennifer so I didn’t want to be late for dinner.

We got to Fester’s at about 6:45pm but Fester was still on his way home from work.   So we had chatted to Jennifer until Fester got home.  I got absolutely smashed.  I had champers & baileys…. not good to mix, but I quite enjoyed the night.  We didn’t sit down to eat until 9:30pm but the food was good and so was the company.  Glen and I didn’t get home until approx midnight.

On Friday, I wanted to be in the city early again.  So I was up at 4:30am (more like sleep walking) and got to the office at 6:30am.  However, the key that I had been given from the previous person that was in my position, didn’t work.  I just found this out as there’s another guy that starts around this time and he’s always opened the door.  Poo – so I called the other guy and he was walking towards the office.  So I didn’t have to wait too long.

I left the office at about 5:15pm and got the train home.  Glen wanted to go see The Bourne Ultimatum at Gold Class on Friday night with Jim & Sharon.  We were originally going to see The Bourne Ultimatum on 31 August but Glen hadn’t booked us in – so we missed out on the seats.  So the only time that we could get in to see movie on Friday was 9:30pm.  It was a good movie, but I was just so tired so I think I could’ve enjoyed it more.  We got desserts for during the movie.  I got the Apple & Blackberry Crumble – mmmm yummy and Glen got the Lemon Tart – he said that was good too.  We got home at 12:30pm.
On Saturday, I had an appointment at the beautician’s at 8:15am.  Megan (the beautician) also had a big night on Friday; it was her Hockey Final, which her team won and the went out for a few drinkies.  I think that she was feeling a little worse for wear.  I then had an appointment with Yasmin to take some photos of her and bub bub (Sienna) for my Photography Course.  Bub bub was pretty cranky cause she was tired and Yaz thinks she’s going through a growth spurt which also makes them a little grrr.  Yaz had to leave to go to her Mum’s at 1pm, so I went home after that.

I had an Intimo party on Sunday, so the rest of Saturday involved cleaning the house.  Fester & Jennifer were supposed to come over for lunch on Sunday too, but they ended up being crook and didn’t end up coming.

Sunday morning, we got up and I had to go to the shops and grab some stuff for the BBQ (that didn’t end up happening) & for the snacks I was going to do for the Intimo Party.  I made some scones and did all the prep work for the BBQ.  At about 11:45am, Glen called Fester to see how far away they were.  It went to message bank.  Glen got a call back at about 1pm saying they were sick.  Then Deb the Intimo Consultant came and set up while Glen and I were eating our sausage rolls (quick and easy lunch).

Other people started arriving for the Intimo Party, so I got out the snacks and some drinks (non-alcoholic of course).  The Party went well and everyone had left at 5:45pm.  We then had to go to Glen’s parents for dinner – they eat early so we were late when we got there at 6pm.

I was happy when it was Monday because I got to relax – yes while I was at work.

4wding Last Weekend

Last weekend, the Patrol club had its yearly get together at Landcruiser Mountain Park.  Glen had been looking forward to it for quite some time.  Glen has been looking for more people that are on his level (my words, not his) in regards to wanting to go out and driver skill.  I don’t really think that Glen has much to do with the guys from this club other than doing posts on their forum.

Anyway, Jason (otherwise known as “Jim” or “Crazy Jim”) was the only other person from the usual group to go with us.  Jim was planning to stay for the weekend, but his wife got sick so he could only go for the day.  So we went up convoy and when we got there, we just drove up to guys that had Patrol’s in the camping area and Jim started talking to some of them.  These guys really didn’t have a clue.  They didn’t know what (UHF) channel the rest of the club were on or where the other guys headed.  It was like getting blood out of a stone.

So Glen & I set up our tent and Jim helped unpack the Ute.  I have to say that seeing us set up our tent is quite funny.   Seeing we only do it probably 3 or 4 times a year, we seem to forget how to do it.  Although Jim has watched us do it before.  I think he laughs at us every time.

Once the tent was up and we got all the excess crap out of the Ute, we were off around the park.  They had closed off a lot of the tracks for regeneration (it had been raining quite heavily, so I think they didn’t want 4wd nuts chewing up the tracks).   We found a group of Patrol people and they were too busy talking crap and drinking (alcohol – so much for QLD road rules applying in the park).  One of the guys (and his mate) that was in this group was keen for some driving so he tagged along with us.

Jim, Glen & the other guy (I can’t remember names – oopsy) headed for the extreme tracks.  Jim and Glen got up one of the extreme tracks and then the other guy had a go.  He ripped the tyre of the rim – which was pretty cool – and the guys got it back on.  The funny bit was he got about another 10 meters or so and then staked the tyre.  Glen towed him up the rest of the way.

We went for a night run, which was my first one and that was pretty cool.  After the night run, we put the roast & veges in the camp oven and waited for it to cook.  I think it will be the last time that we do this cause it took to long.  After dinner, Jim went home.  It just isnt the same without Jim.   He’s just great company on a trip… He makes me laugh without even trying…  I understand why Glen and Jim get along so well.

We didn’t sleep much, there was a choir of snoring in the camping area.  At one point during the night, Glen and I were just lying there laughing at all the different snoring that was happening.  Of course we had a go at mimicking them.  All I got was a sore throat from trying.

On Sunday, the other guy that went driving with us went home early too.  So it was just Glen and I.  There was a WE Rock Challenge on, so we went and checked that out.  It was great to watch. Carnage everywhere.  On the track that we decided to watch, only 2 cars out of the lot made it with out rolling it or breaking.  I got heaps of photos with my newly leart skills. I’ll put some up shortly.  I really enjoyed just me and Glen sitting there watching it and talking about what was happening and making jokes.  One of the best days we’ve spent together.

All in all a good weekend when I thought it was going to be boring.

Woodlands of Marburg

Glen asked me where I’d like to go for dinner for my birthday (a couple of weeks ago) and I chose Woodlands of Marburg.  My parents also came down for my birthday and also Father’s Day, so they came to Woodlands also.

I called Woodlands to book in and asked if we could get there early to have a look around.  I also wanted to take some photos for my essay.

When we got there, the sun was setting and there wasn’t enough light to take good photos.  So we went for a wander around.  Allan (sp?) who is the Curator & F&B Manager came up to us and took us on a tour.   They were opening new accommodation and we went through 2 of the rooms – absolutely beautiful.  He gave us some background history of Woodlands and he then got another staff member to take us on a tour of the mansion.  What a beautiful  house and the owners have really embraced the opportunity of bringing Woodlands back to its former glory (and the financial gains too).

I was a bit scared about the 11 ghosts that still reside in the Mansion.  I especially liked the story about the maid that was pushed down the main stairs but her body had been dragged out onto the front lawn to make it look as if she jumped.  Firstly, she shouldn’t have been on the main stairs (servants have to use their own stairs). The main reason she got bumped off was SHE WAS PREGNANT TO THE MASTER.

Getting back on track now. The food at was also fantastic.  Glen had the Beef & Lobster, Mum & Dad had the Fish and I had a Vegetable Wellington.  Mum and I shared a bottle of Woodlands own sweet red (you can’t buy from the cellar door yet – bummer).

It was a fantastic night and the highlight of my birthday.  Mum and Dad were talking about going back there just for a weekend of relaxation… Have to get in quick though – I think The Great Outdoors are going there so it’s only a matter of time before it’s “the in thing”.

Photography Course

Last night was my first class for the photography course at Champaigne Photography. There are seven people in the course with me. I had a very big wake up call last night. There is a possibility of failing the course. There is an exam and you need to do a photographic essay. Yikes!

Last night, I didn’t get much sleep. My head just kept running a mile a minute. I ended getting out of bed and watching really crappy infomercials at 1am.

I have finally decided that I am going to do my photographic essay on Character. There is a huge list of what my theme could be and I think that Character is very open to interpretation.

So I need a favour, I need people that are willing to have their photo taken and spend a couple of hours with me in the next 6 weeks. If you are interested, please a comment to this post if you are interested. Also, if you have any great ideas of photos please post a comment. I appreciate anything that you can help me with.

Bargain Shopping

On Saturday, Louise (Glen’s niece who is actually older than Glen) and I went shopping at Orion Shopping Centre. Lou came over and lived with us for a while a couple of years ago. We used to go shopping all the time back then. Seeing Lou is now a Mum (her bubba girl is the cutest) she didn’t want to go too far from home just in case we had to rush home. I was keen to go to Stones Corner or even Harbour Town. Not that much of a fan of DFO, but there’s a new one getting built at Jindalee, so I will probably frequent DFO more often.

I was thinking that we wouldn’t be gone that long seeing Orion isn’t that big of a player yet in the shopping stakes. Normally I go there for Lenard’s and Big W. However, six and a half hours later we were heading home. We got some absolute bargains. I got: a booby top from Valleygirl ($14.95); several knit tops that would go with suits or casually with jeans ($15 ea) and a lovely blue satin type dress ($15 – I got it with the thought of wearing it to a wedding) from a little boutique type shop; some funky clothes ($37) from Tree of Life and; cargo pants ($10), Rio singlets ($2 ea), two long sleeve knit tops ($5 ea – one I am wearing currently) and some socks ($5) from Big W. Bargain shopping.

Lou got heaps as well. She got a pressie for her hubby and lots of clothes for her daughter too.

I’m not a great fan of shopping normally, but I really loved going shopping with Lou. We both kinda know what suits each other and the kind of clothes we look for. Lou and I are both Virgos and currently we have been wearing the same colours and types of clothes. Today is purple.

I’m really going to miss Lou when the family go back to NZ tomorrow. :o (

Glen’s Family Visiting

Glen’s eldest sister just called to check everything is still okay for her and some of the family to stay with us. They are arriving on Thursday and are staying with us for a week. I quite like Jan (Glen’s eldest sister), so I am really looking forward to catching up. Unfortunately, I don’t have any leave owing so I won’t be taking any leave. The good news is that Brisbane Show Holiday is Wednesday, so I get to spend their last day with them.

We have a 5 bedroom house and it’s going to be packed with people. Jan, her husband, her daughter, her granddaughter & Glen’s parents are also staying with us. I have a feeling that I’m not really going to have much time to myself. It’s also totally different when it isn’t your family. I feel as though I need to be extra ‘nice’. I probably don’t have to because they probably know I’m a wench most of the time, but I guess I want them to like me. It doesn’t help that we have been brought up differently. For example, when I go home to my parents, if I want to eat anything in the fridge, I have to ask first. When Glen goes to his parents home, he just opens the fridge and starts eating. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I still ask if I want anything from anyone.

It’s always nice to have visitors, but I also like it when I have the ability to do nudey runs from the bathroom to my bedroom.

Previous Work Colleague

Oh dear – this is the part where you find out that I’m not such a nice person.

I ran into an old work colleague on the way home. I was waiting in line at the checkouts in Bi-Lo. When the Service Cashier started serving me, we both recognised each other. My heart lurched. I remember when she was the receptionist / admin person and I was the accounts / payroll person. I made her cry (not the first person I’ve made cry and certainly not the last). I won’t go into detail, but I held her feet to the fire when some stuff she said came into question. She left not long after… I did this to two other people at the same company. Goodness, maybe they just put me with the people they wanted to get rid of.

Getting back on track. While she was scanning my groceries, she told me that she actually doesn’t work at Bi-Lo… mmm hang on – you’re behind the register and you’re in their uniform… I’m going with you work here. She told me that she is a consultant at some la-di-da firm in the city. They fly her all over Australia in Business Class. I asked her what consulting work she does and she either ignored the question or didn’t hear it.

Then she proceeds to tell me that she’s had a baby and loves being at home with her baby. Bear with me a moment. You have just told me you are a fancy consultant that gets flown all over Australia and you are also working at Bi-Lo… hrrm… doesn’t leave a lot of time for the baby at home.

Which leads me to think that she has just told a big porky pie. When I catch up with people, I tell them the truth, as sad as it is.

My half of the conversation: Yes I am still with Glen. No we are not married. Yes it has been eight years. Yes it had better be a freaking huge rock of a diamond. No I haven’t had the pleasure of squeezing a baby out of my nether regions. Yes doing the same kinda work just in a different place. Yes my life still sucks gigantic balls.

See? Isn’t telling the truth better?
